Hampshire has been found to be the best destination for wildlife enthusiats in the UK, according to new data from Park Holidays.
With its rolling hills, ancient woodlands, picturesque rivers, and coastal areas, Hampshire boasts a rich and diverse wildlife.
And as one in three Brits planning on holidaying in the UK this year, many are turning to countryside retreats suitable for families and young couples alike.
“Our recent study reveals that Hampshire is the best place to see a variety of mammals, insects, birds and plant life,” Kelly Johnstone, head of brand and content at Park Holidays, told Express.co.uk.
“You can find wildlife on your doorstep as well as a short drive away from all Park Holidays resorts, making them a perfect base to ensure you get a glimpse of the animals you’ve come to see.”
In Hampshire, the Solent Breezes Holiday Park is located next to many hiking trails and pebble beaches.
Nature lovers may enjoy spotting several deer species, as well as hares, badgers, hedgehogs and American mink in the enighbouring nature and wildlife areas. The furry serotine, one of the UK’s largest bats, is also known to emerge in the early evening while it is still light.
“Whether you ‘re dipping your toes into wildlife walks and want beautiful scenery near great pubs, to fully immersing yourself in a wildlife trip on the search for a particular animal, you can find it all in a choice of over 50 holiday parks”, Johnstone assured.
Second on the list to enjoy British wildlife are the moors of Yorkshire, where squirrels, hedgehogs and deer species can be spotted, as well as the elusive Siberian Chipmunk in woodland and forests, and the rare Barbastelle bat, which has a pug-like face due to its upturned nose.
According to Johnstone, these holiday trips within the country are gaining in popularity for multiple reasons. With international travel being more costly and dangerous due to natural disasters and extreme heatwaves, like in Greece and other parts of Europe this summer, Brits are looking inland for their next trip.
“There’s also been an ongoing impact post-lockdown, where people rediscovered UK destinations out of necessity, which led to a newfound love of UK breaks and holidays and a wider appreciation of what UK holidays can offer”, Johnstone added. “From our stunning beaches in Cornwall to beautiful countryside and Lochs in Scotland, the UK really does have it all. Why would we need to travel anywhere else?”
