Today is the start of two days of Notting Hill Carnival, celebrating Caribbean culture in the UK.
It is the largest street party in Europe, which means there are inevitably going to be some effects on getting around in the nearby areas, which we looked at in full here.
Transport for London warned that the bus and tube network will be ‘busier than usual’.
They recommended that passengers get off at Paddington station and walk 20 minutes to Notting Hill, and that customers plan and check their journeys before setting off.
Last year’s ridership figures for August bank holiday on both buses and the Tube reached the highest levels since before the pandemic.
This year, TfL is expecting an even busier weekend.
Emma Strain, customer director, said: ‘Carnival celebrates London’s wonderful diversity, and there is no better way to end a fantastic summer of events across the capital than welcoming back Notting Hill Carnival.
‘Smaller Tube stations such as Notting Hill Gate and Westbourne Park closer to the parade can get extremely busy. The easiest way to travel to the Carnival is by public transport and for people to use large well-connected stations such as Paddington and walk to the parade. This year, as with every other, we are working closely with Carnival organisers and the police to make sure we all enjoy another successful event.’
