Henley’s of Wivenhoe, in Vine Drive, has made it to the Fry Awards 2025 after being named one of the UK’s Top 50 Fish & Chip Takeaways.
The prestigious award recognizes excellence across the fish and chip industry, with shops assessed on food quality, cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, and customer service.
Only those scoring 96 per cent and above made the list, with some even achieving a perfect 100%.
Henley’s has once again shown why it’s a community treasure and now a national success.
Ryan Patterson, 29, who has been a proud part of Henley’s for 14 years, said: “I left school when I was 15 and was outside this chip bar every Saturday.
“I’ve been working here for 14 years and love it to bits. I really enjoy serving up the freshest fish and chips to all our customers.
“Getting recognised with all these awards is such a bonus and we feel great about it.”
Daniel Nixon, 19, who joined Henley’s four years ago, added: “I was in college and then just started working full-time here.
“It’s incredible to see how much love we get from our customers.”
Business is booming for Henley’s, with Friday nights being their busiest, serving 50 to 100 customers.
Deliveries have also become a major part of their success, especially during colder months.
Henley’s reputation for quality is nothing new.
In 2007, they made headlines for cooking the world’s fastest portion of chips in just three minutes and 40 seconds. And they have consistently won several accolades.
Owner David Henley has also shared his expertise on UK Food’s Market Kitchen and even took on celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo in Take on the Takeaway.
