The 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways and 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants for 2025 were revealed at the annual awards, now in its 13th year.
The results follow months of judging in which takeaways, restaurants and mobile units were secretly assessed by mystery diners on a range of aspects such as:
- Food quality
- Premises cleanliness
Staff expertise - Value for money
- Ease of ordering
- Social media presence
Only the operators with the highest scores earn an award.

Three South Wales fish and chip shops among UK’s best takeaways
Three fish and chip shops in south Wales were named among the top 50 best takeaways in the Fry Awards 2025:
Fintans Fish & Chip Co. (Llanishen)
Fintans Fish & Chip Company opened on August 8, 1988 at Merthyr Road, Whitchurch.
The chippy has since gained “growing popularity and customer loyalty within Whitchurch and beyond” and now boasts three sites in south Wales, including in Llanishen.
Fintans Fish & Chip Company’s website reads: “Fintans is pleased to bring you locally sourced produce with everything to satisfy your hungry belly.
“Delicious, light and fluffy chips accompanied with everything from glorious haddock to supreme scampi.”
The Llanishen store has received high praise from customers, with a 3.8 star (out of 5) rating on Google Reviews from 350 reviews.
One visitor commented: “Genuinely the best fish supper I’ve had in years, it was super fresh, tasty and plentiful.
“The sausages were of great quality in comparison to other chips shops around.
“I don’t write many reviews but this place truly deserves it, thank you all.”
Farnham’s at Fontygary (Rhoose)
Farnham’s at Fontygary also comes highly recommended by visitors on Google Reviews, with a rating of 4.3 from 308 reviews.
One person, in a review on Google Reviews, commented: “I rarely leave a review, but we were so impressed with the quality of the fish and chips I had to write something!
“Nice crispy batter and excellent quality fish. Supported with mushy peas and the Irish curry sauce.
“We were a family a six and totally satisfied with a delicious take away meal. 100% recommend!”
While another visitor added: “Wonderful food hot fresh and cooked perfectly. Great service from the girl serving us.
“Highly recommend 5* will be coming back 100%.”
Hiks (Brynhyfryd)
Hiks – located in Brynhyfryd, Swansea – has been described by a number of visitors as having “the best fish and chips” and boasts a 4.5 (out of 5) rating on Tripadvisor from 193 reviews.
One person, commenting about their chippy experience on Tripadvisor, said: “The best fish and chi[p]s I have ever eaten.
“Crispy chips and very good batter, Both [c]od and plaice top quality. Wine ok for the price.”
