A man killed in Storm Darragh after a tree fell onto his van has been named as tributes poured in for the ‘kind’ football coach.
Paul Fiddler died after a falling tree slammed on his van in Lancashire yesterday.
Mr Fiddler, who was in his 40s, was the first victim to be killed in the storm which has battered the UK over the weekend with gale-force winds.
He suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene after a tree fell onto his Citroen van on the A59 in Longton, Lancashire.
Mr Fiddler is listed on the Lytham Town FC as a first team assistant manager, according to Mail Online.
The club’s spokesman said in a statement: ‘Today, we would like to take the time to remember a Lytham Town FC legend, Paul Fiddler.
‘Our thoughts are with the Lytham Town lads, his friends and family at this time.
‘Rest in Peace Paul. We will miss you.’
Tributes poured on social media for Mr Fiddler, who worked at a local TV shop.
One friend wrote: ‘Rest in peace Paul. Such a wonderful person always went out his way to help.
‘Thank you for all you have done over the years. Sending lots of love and prayers to you and your family right now.’
Another said on social media: ‘My heart goes out to Paul’s family during this sad time for everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
‘Paul was a massive support for countless families in their moments of need, and his kindness will always be remembered.’
Storm Darragh has wreaked havoc across the UK, leaving railways and roads blocked due to winds, heavy rain and fallen trees.
Another man died in Erdington, Birmingham, after a tree landed on his car yesterday afternoon.
