Red Snapper Learning (RSL) has been enlisted by the UK government to deliver spiking prevention training to on-trade staff.
Earlier this week, prime minister Keir Starmer called a meeting with hospitality leaders, police chiefs and transport bosses to discuss how best to combat drink spiking.
Part of the plan involves training up to 10,000 on-trade staff nationwide by spring 2025.
A pilot programme will begin in December.
The training will equip night-time economy staff with the skills to prevent spiking incidents, support victims with empathy and care, and assist police in gathering evidence to enable successful prosecutions.
Dipti Mouj, RSL’s head of safeguarding training, said: “This is an incredibly important project for RSL. Working directly with night-time economy workers to combat spiking is a sensible ‘front line’ crime prevention strategy. Our training will be engaging, practical, and empowering, giving workers the knowledge and confidence to act decisively.”
RSL’s training will take place online, through Microsoft Teams and a digital training portal, and be free of charge. It will take half a day and be targeted at nightclub and bar owners, managers, and staff.

The previous UK government announced plans to tackle spiking last year, after it was revealed that more than 5,000 people in England reported being spiked in 2022. The Spirits Business looked into the challenges training would pose for the sector.
