Storm Bert devastated the UK with raging floodwaters and powerful gales over the weekend.

And the ferocious storm tragically claimed its first life on Saturday after a tree fell on a car.

A man in his 60s was confirmed dead at the scene in Hampshire just before 8am.

Meanwhile, a body was found in the search for 75-year-old Brian Perry after he went missing in the River Conwy on Saturday.

Perry went missing while walking his dog near Trefriw yesterday as flood waters caused by Storm Bert rose.

Another man died after his car entered water at a ford in Colne, Lancashire, on Saturday afternoon.

The man, in his 80s, was taken to hospital where he later died, Lancashire Police said in a statement yesterday.

But the end is still not in sight for Brits battered by the dangerous weather conditions, according to the Met Office.

The national forecaster have issued a yellow weather warning for wind covering northern Scotland.

The warning came into force at midnight and will expire at 10am today.

Locals in the area have been warned that a spell of “very strong winds” could be on the cards.

Delays to road, rail and flights are likely, said the Met Office.

Commuters across the UK are still braced for chaos this morning with almost 160 flood warnings and alerts still active.

They are in force across the South West, parts of the South East, the Midlands, into areas like Leeds and Bradford, near Wrexham and Stoke-on-Trent and up to Carlisle.

It comes as locals in Pontypridd, South Wales, awoke on Sunday to find their front gardens underwater and cars completely submerged on the street.

Persistent rainfall overnight saw the River Taff burst its banks and cause chaos in the town.

Businesses were also been affected, including those on Mill Street in Pontypridd.

Fire rescue services helped residents navigate the dangers and pump water from out of Sion Street.

Devastatingly this is the second time in four years the street has experienced major flooding.

The local community have banded together and passed out food and drinks to the emergency workers.

An entire bridge under construction was washed away amid the chaos on Saturday night.

The Abercynon Feeder Pipe Footbridge over the River Taff was being rebuilt after being substantially damaged during Storm Dennis in 2020.

A railway line was also underwater in the Cynon Valley, as Cwmbach train station is completely submerged

Meanwhile in in Cymmer, South Wales, shocking pictures show the destruction yet another landslide has inflicted.

This comes after five children and five adults had to be rescued from a similar natural disaster on Saturday.

All ten people were thankfully saved from the house in North Wales.

Photographs shared by Cymmer Fire Station reveal debris strewn across parts of the A4106, blocking a car.

A spokesperson said: “Crews are currently on scene at a landslide A4106 Bwlch Road from Treorchy to Nantymoel. This road is will be closed until further notice.”

Elsewhere, a mum watched in horror as her 11-month-old baby became trapped inside a car sinking in raging floodwaters.

The baby’s dad, Andre Randles, had to rescue his son when his Volkswagen hatchback became submerged in West Yorkshire.

The tot’s terrified mum, Paige Newsome, spoke of her terror watching the ordeal unfold.

Meanwhile, families in Belfast were “trapped inside” their homes as firefighters pumped out flood water, as reported by the BBC.

As the Atlantic brings warmer temperatures, snow that covered the north of England and much of Scotland yesterday melted over Sunday.
