Just under a quarter of Liverpool men are believed to have a gym membership

Liverpool men ranked fourth in the final results

Men in London, Leeds, and Manchester fancy their chances as the healthiest in Britain, according to a recent study. A poll involving 2,000 gents indicated those from the capital puff on the fewest cigarettes, hydrate more frequently, and are likelier to be gym aficionados.

The findings suggest lads in Manchester are sure to gulp down four glasses of water daily and enjoy three portions of fruit and veg, and 40% are confident they could reel off 10 sit-ups without breaking into a sweat. Over in Leeds, it’s noted that 82% have steered clear of vaping.

Liverpool men fall below the national average for a number of key results, including being gym members, drinking a certain number of glasses of water each day, and having recently gone for a run. The city ranked fourth place in the results.

A spokesperson for Vitabiotics Wellman, who commissioned the analysis, said: “Health is different for everybody. But it’s been interesting to see the differences from men around the nation, when it comes to different aspects of health. There are lots of different things that can impact your physical wellbeing; it’s not just about how often you go to the gym.”

Up north in Newcastle, locals are most prone to smoke cigarettes ‘multiple’ times throughout the day. Sheffield’s males, however, find themselves at the bottom of the health ladder – with only 17% owning up to having a gym subscription.

Additionally, the research highlighted key indicators of prime health, as defined by the blokes surveyed, such as being brimming with energy, maintaining a low body fat percentage, and exercising without feeling overly fatigued.

Only 60% believe they could carry a ‘moderately’ heavy load of shopping bags for 50 metres, just 29% could touch their toes without bending their knees, and a mere 21% could run a mile without stopping.

The same spokesperson added: “Good health starts from within. It’s about how you nourish your body, maintain energy, and prioritise your overall well-being.

“Our research highlights the importance of physical activity and making healthier lifestyle choices. True health is about balance – when you feel your best physically, it has a positive impact on every aspect of your life, from work to personal relationships.”
