Former UK Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch has won the
election to become the new leader of the Conservative Party,
Azernews reports.
She triumphed in a final contest against former Migration
Minister Robert Jenrick.
In the last round, the voting was open not only to Members of
Parliament but to all party members. Badenoch secured the majority
of votes and emerged victorious.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer congratulated Badenoch on
becoming the first Black politician to lead the party in the
British Parliament. He stated, “Having the first Black leader of
the Westminster party is a proud moment for our country. I look
forward to working with you and your party in the interests of the
British people.”
Badenoch has also received congratulations from her
predecessors, including David Cameron, Boris Johnson, and Rishi
Sunak, as she takes on her new role as leader of the Conservative
Party.
