Instagram and Facebook Messenger is down leaving thousands unable to access their texts or use their accounts.

More than 2,000 users have reported issues with their Instagram accounts in the last hour, with most people saying their direct messages are not sending.

Others have also said the app crashes when they try to log on, as well as the quality of videos being poor.

There has been no official statement from Meta, which runs both apps.

One user X named Min said: ‘Instagram is down.. can’t send messages to anyone.’

Sue added: ‘Is it just me, or is anyone else unable to send messages on Instagram?’

One wrote: ‘Ignored your DM? No, I didn’t! Instagram is down!’

Another X user, reporting issues, wrote: ‘Messages aren’t delivering and show ‘failed to deliver’ after a few minutes. Anyone else experiencing this?’

DownDetector’s numbers are based on user-submitted reports. The actual number of affected users may vary.

Early this year, hundreds of thousands of Facebook and Instagram users were impacted globally for more than two hours by an outage that was caused by a technical issue.

At the peak of the outage, there were more than 550,000 reports of disruptions for Facebook and about 92,000 for Instagram, according to the website.
