Workout machines used by the likes of Andy Murray, Emma Radacanu, and LeBron James are to make their functional fitness debut in Newark.

For the first time in functional fitness history, four machines from Midlands-based total body workout specialist, Versaclimber UK, are to take centre stage at the Midlands Fitness Games.

The games, held at Newark Showground, were created in 2019 by structural engineer, Jack Simmons, and gym owner, Myles Brownhill, and was the first of its kind in the region.

This year, the event will welcome over 300 participants as they take part in as many as five games which test their skills and strength, from 9am to 4pm, on Sunday, October 20, at Newark Showground.

Ryan Kelford, operations manager at Versaclimber UK, said: “The Midlands Fitness Games is a hugely exciting event for the fitness industry. Over the years, there have been some great functional fitness events around the country, but the Midlands has always been left wanting. Thanks to both Jack and Myles, and their passion for the sport, we’ve finally got our wish.

“Since it began in 2019, Midlands Fitness Games has been making its mark in the Midlands, bringing together some of the most talented and skilled athletes, and lovers of functional fitness, to the centre of the UK. Although we’ve been around for much longer, as a Midlands-born brand ourselves, it’s a real pleasure to be joining forces with another local business that’s keen to make waves in the fitness industry.

“October’s event marks the start of the Versaclimber brand name on the roster of a CrossFit-inspired functional fitness event — a milestone we’re really proud of. We’re confident that the machine will push Midlands Fitness Games contestants to new heights, appeal to their fiercely competitive spirits and that it’s appearance will be the first of many in the functional fitness circuit for years to come.”

The Versclimber Sport machines will feature as part of a competition that will be a test of endurance and strength.

Jack Simmons, co-owner and organiser at Midlands Fitness Games, added: “We’re so excited to have a brand like Versaclimber UK onboard for our next event in October. To be the first functional fitness event to feature a machine of this calibre is a great privilege and something that we’re proud to be able to deliver for our growing community.

“The Versaclimber workout will bring a whole new dimension to the event and present our community with one of the biggest functional fitness challenges they’ve ever experienced.

“The Midlands is home to some fantastic, home-grown athletes, and we’re pleased to be showcasing what we’ve got on offer here, including brands like Versaclimber UK, in this latest event. We can’t wait to see everyone get stuck in, and to see where the future takes us.”
