With more than 100 jobs up for grabs, major firms in the city such as DPD, Amazon, and Royal Mail are actively recruiting additional staff to meet the anticipated surge in deliveries in preparation for the busy Black Friday (November 29) and Christmas period.

Independent parcel carrier, Yodel, is currently seeking 48 couriers and 18 warehouse roles in Carlisle.

This recruitment drive is part of Yodel’s UK-wide plan to add 3,000 extra workers as the firm anticipates handling up to 53 per cent more parcels in the run-up to Christmas.

The new positions offer flexible working options, allowing couriers to schedule deliveries around other commitments, with the potential for temporary roles to become permanent.

Mike Hancox, CEO of Yodel, described Carlisle as “an incredibly important site within Yodel’s national operation”.

Royal Mail is also preparing for the festive season, currently seeking 42 seasonal workers at the Carlisle Mail Centre to assist with the holiday rush.

DPD, which recently expanded its operations at Kingmoor Park, announced back in July it was seeking to fill 40 new permanent delivery driver positions in Carlisle, positioning itself for the increased demand as the holidays approach.

Speaking previously, Neil McIntyre, from Kingmoor Park Properties, which manages Kingmoor Park in Carlisle and was instrumental in bringing DPD to the city, said: “The recruitment news further enforces the fact that Carlisle is a place to invest and alongside the many investment projects around the city, shows that the growth is both happening and is sustainable.”

Similarly, EVRI was looking to fill 160 courier roles in the city earlier this year, with the firm currently looking to bring on 5,000 couriers nationally for the busier period.

In an effort to attract new couriers, Yodel has also partnered with Onsi Pay, with hopes of providing couriers greater financial flexibility.

The partnership enables new recruits to access a portion of their earnings the next day, with up to £200 available per withdrawal.
