The world’s safest airlines have been revealed, with British Airways ranked number 15 on the list.

AirlineRatings.com, a product rating review site, released two lists: one is ‘The 25 Safest Airlines For 2024, and the other is ‘The 20 Safest Low-Cost Airlines For 2024.

Air New Zealand was named the safest airline overall.

The airline based in Auckland operates 20 domestic and 30 international destinations in 18 countries.

Geoffrey Thomas, the editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings.com, said: “Air New Zealand operates in some of the most challenging weather environments which test pilot skills.”

The airline’s aircraft are state of the art following their focus on the latest technology.

In second place is Australian airline Qantas, which is the only airline in the world that flies to all continents. Last year it was ranked in first place for the safest airline.

The rest of the top ten safest airlines include Virgin Australia, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, All Nippon Airways, Finnair, Cathay Pacific Airways and Alaska Airways.

British Airways is the only British airline that ranked a spot on the list, and it was listed as the 15th safest airline of 2024.

However, multiple British airlines made the list of the safest low-cost airlines. Both easyJet and Ryanair are part of the top ten safest low-cost airlines for 2024, ranking at second and third place.

Wizz Air, which is a Hungarian airline but has a British subsidiary that launched in 2018, also made the list in fourth place. The airline operates flights from eight UK airports to nearly 90 countries across Europe and the Middle East.
