Amazon’s already dropping discounts on its own-brand devices (The Independent )

Calling all bargain hunters – Amazon’s 48-hour October Prime Day kicks off in just a few hours, and if you’re already raring to go, you’ll be happy to hear the ecommerce giant has revved its engine early and there are some stellar savings to be found on its own-brand gadgets.

While the Prime Big Deal Days sale (that’s what it’s officially called) doesn’t begin until tomorrow, I’m already seeing Amazon take chunks out of the price of its Fire TV Sticks, Kindle tablets, Echo smart speakers and even its Ring video doorbells.

The retailer is also expected to slash prices on everything from TVs and laptops to beauty and home appliances, including vacuum cleanersheated clothes airers and dehumidifiers, as well as tech from Apple, home essentials and electric toothbrushes from Oral-B.

To help you shop smart this Prime Day, the IndyBest team will be here live throughout the sale, sniffing out the latest and best early deals and providing top tips. Constantly updated, we’re busy hunting down the discounts. But remember, you need to be a Prime subscriber if you want to take part.

Amazon’s slashed £250 off the Google Pixel 8 Pro

(Google)

Discounted by £250, Google’s Pixel 8 Pro is one of the best smartphones we’ve ever tested. “Last year’s Pixel phones go hard on fancy generative AI features, but underpinning all of Google’s software cleverness is an excellent device boasting a significant hardware upgrade over last year’s model,” tech writer Steve said in their review. “With a telephoto lens and extra RAM, as well as a Tensor G3 processor, AI-fuelled photo editing features and a glorious 120Hz display, it’s the Android device to beat.”

The PS5 Slim has just had a tasty price cut

This one isn’t am Amazon deal, but it’s one I think gamers might be interested in. Ahead of the launch of the shockingly-expensive PS5 Pro, Sony has just discounted the PS5 Slim digital edition to just £339.99.

(Sony)

The PS5 Slim is the OG PS5 with a glow-up. It weighs less, has a slimmer profile, and comes with 1TB of internal storage instead of the random 825GB found on the previous model. There are four panels on the side instead of two, a glossy upper half and a matte bottom half. Cheaper than the PS5 Pro, Sony’s just reduced it even further. It’s the lowest price I’ve ever seen the console.

Save £60 on this Oral-B electric toothbrush

Oral-B Pro 3 electric toothbrush: Was £100, now £40, Amazon.co.uk

(Amazon)

While the Pro 3 is less powerful and a little noisier than the premium iO range, it will clean your teeth just as competently, while leaving your bank balance looking a little healthier, too. Featuring different speed settings and a whitening mode, the Oral-B Pro 3 left our tech writer Steve’s teeth with that “‘just been to the dentist’ feeling”. It was discounted to £40 in last year’s Big Deal Days sale, and is available today at the same price.

There are even more electric toothbrush deals in Steve’s article below:

Clean up with this nearly 50 per cent saving on the best Shark vacuum in The Independent’s tried and tested round-up. “The suction power on carpet and hard floors is a dream,” Zoe said in her review. “It’s constantly working out what power levels you need to pick up the most mess. All you have to do is steer while it uses clean sense IQ technology to automatically sense the mess you can’t see and adjust cleaning power for up to 50 per cent more dirt pick-up.” Complete with a dual battery and 120-minute run-time, other nifty features include anti-hair-wrap technology and LED lights.

Save £30 on the 10th-generation iPad at Amazon

Apple iPad, 10th generation, 2022: Was £349, now £319.99, Amazon.co.uk

(Amazon)

With a small discount of £30, the 2022 iPad has fallen to one of its lowest prices at Amazon. The new design, faster processor, better and bigger display are easily worth the price, and the new iPad is a real rival to the iPad air, which usually costs £170 more,” The Independent’s tech critic David Phelan said in his review. “This is the best tablet under £500 from any manufacturer, in my opinion.”

Forget the Dyson Airwrap, the Shark FlexStyle is now on sale

The Dyson Airwrap is one of the hottest tools in haircare, but it’s not cheap. Shark’s FlexStyle is beauty writer Maisie’s top choice if you’re looking for an alternative. Best part? It’s on sale right now.

Shark flexstyle 5-in-1 air styler: Was £299, now £249, Amazon.co.uk

(Amazon )

Save £50 on the Shark FlexStyle in this early deal ahead of Prime Day. “This has been a game changer in our hair routine. The lightweight, versatile and multifunctional tool made drying and styling a breeze – so much so, we think it is on par with the airwrap, even though it’s £200 cheaper,” Maisie said in her review.

Save £100 on the Kindle Scribe

Looking for an Amazon Kindle that will let you write on it and scribble notes? The Amazon Scribe has been discounted by £100 ahead of Amazon Prime Day.

Amazon Kindle scribe (64 GB): Was £409.99, now £309.99, Amazon.co.uk

(Amazon)

The Kindle scribe comes with a stylus for creating notes in the margins of the page, which is pretty neat. “The scribe collects your notes together in one place”, tech writer Steve said in his review. In terms of reading experience, he added that the big display means you can squeeze more words into a page, resulting in fewer page turns (or you can opt for bigger text).
