Ross Carter has resigned as CEO of The Drinks Trust, leaving the UK charitable organisation after five years at the helm.
Announced today, his departure leaves The Drinks Trust without a CEO, although the charity’s board said in a statement sent to the drinks business this morning that it had already begun the process of identifying a successor.
The Trust has not disclosed whether Carter, who was formerly head of the London Wine Fair, is taking up a position elsewhere in the trade.
Guy Lawrence, chairman of the board of trustees for the charity, thanked Carter for his work as CEO of The Drinks Trust since July 2019.
“Ross and his team have done a great job at The Drinks Trust over the past few years. They have made significant efforts to ensure that those in our community receive the support and training they need to help them escape hardship,” he said.
Meanwhile, Carter said he had been “honoured to have had the chance to lead The Drinks Trust team and so many supportive industry partners over the last five years.”
Acknowledging that “it has been a tough climate for the charity sector recently,” he said that due to “the extraordinary generosity of our donors, we’ve managed to make great strides to ensure that more of those in our community have received the support they need.”
Ross has led The Drinks Trust through tough times while overseeing some major developments.
Having steered the charity through the pandemic, he then oversaw the introduction of new services, such as the Trust’s Restore offerings as well as its industry training and education arm, called the Develop programme.
The statement said that Carter had been instrumental in expanding the charity’s reach and impact across the industry, increasing the level of support fivefold since coming to the role in 2019.
