As travel preferences shift during autumn, a growing number of Brits are choosing the comfort of affordable staycations over more expensive international holidays.

A recent study by credit card brand Aqua analysed various factors such as accommodation costs, search interest, and climate conditions – and one seaside resort came out on top.

Topping the list ahead of Blackpool and Portsmouth, who took second and third place respectively, is Torquay.

The research found that a weekend getaway at this popular coastal town costs just £74 for two.

And it may come as no surprise, as autumn in Torquay offers mild temperatures, making it comfortable for outdoor activities and exploring without the summer crowds.

The stunning coastal paths, such as the South West Coast Path, are ideal for long walks, where visitors can enjoy the fresh air and stunning landscapes.

Autumn in this area is a great time for wildlife enthusiasts, with opportunities to spot migratory birds and enjoy the local fauna in a quieter setting.

Travellers have found this destination to be great for just relaxing and enjoying the local cuisine, with TripAdvisor reviewers sharing their favourable thoughts on the travel website.

Arabinda-Ghosh said: “A beautiful small place where every spot is welcoming and you will feel relaxed and cool.

“A whole day spending is not enough to quench the thirst for peace and beauty.

“I found Happy faces everywhere and there is family get-together like feeling. An ideal place for relaxation with nice food and drink.”

About the harbour, Ann M said: “Just love this area. Loads of quality pubs, restaurants, nightlife, most being fairly priced.

“It’s lovely to just sit outside one of the bars and watch the world go by. Very relaxing, whatever the weather.”

Annie echoed: “We had a walk around the harbour and watched the boats for a while. Peaceful and beautiful views. Clean and tidy harbour, we found it very relaxing.”
