Ultra Music Publishing/Helix Records are hiring an Associate Director, Business & Legal Affairs to support the General Counsel & SVP, Business & Legal Affairs and to help grow and manage our catalogue of artists and music-related content. We’re looking for someone with the enthusiasm and passion to bring music into peoples’ lives across the globe.
Candidates must have a legal background, be comfortable working on a wide variety of music-related agreements and have experience in drafting and closing recording and publishing agreements. This is a great opportunity to be part of a dynamic and collaborative team and for those that are inquisitive there may be opportunities to become involved in other parts of the business.
Responsibilities
The position of Associate Director, Business & Legal Affairs includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Draft, review, negotiate and manage a large volume of a variety of agreements including, without limitation, recording agreements, music publishing agreements, producer agreements, side artist agreements, sample license agreements, video production agreements, label waivers, independent contractor agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
- Effectively manage relationships with artists, artist management teams and attorneys on a worldwide basis.
- Advise senior executives, A&R, finance, licensing, product management and marketing teams regarding contractual obligations and restrictions, including advising on litigation and pre-litigation claims and matters.
- Create deal summaries and maintain and otherwise administer proprietary company systems.
- Counsel internal departments and senior management on day-to-day business and legal issues and strategies
- Regularly update and manage agreement templates.
- Balance, prioritize and coordinate a high volume of diverse and time-sensitive projects in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum qualifications
- Qualified to practice as a Solicitor in the UK.
- Minimum 2 years of legal experience in an entertainment company or related law practice.
- Experience in a business affairs position in the music industry a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills required.
