A beach close to Land’s End has been named one of the best across the globe in a new ranking of the world’s best beaches.

The hidden cove can be reached by scrambling down a steep trail on a rocky cliffside, but the reward is well worth the steep journey.

Pedn Vounder in Cornwall has been praised for its crystal clear turquoise waters, usually reserved for the sandy shores of distant Caribbean islands.

Since becoming somewhat of a social media sensation, the Cornish beach has become a popular attraction for tourists visiting the UK and residents seeking a coastal staycation.

A list of the best beaches, compiled by travel site Big 7 Travel, has named Pend Vounder as the eighth best beach in the world.

The west Cornwall sands triumphed over some of the most renowned coastlines in the world, including shores in Indonesia, New Zealand and Greece.

While Pedn Vounder may now be a popular Instagram backdrop thanks to its naturally beautiful landscape, the beach is also one of Cornwall’s best-known nudist beaches.

Its Cornish name can be roughly translated from celtic phrases to mean “end of the lane”, likely a nod to the site’s location, just round the corner from the most westerly point of England.

Commenting on the Cornwall beach, Big 7 Travel said: “Despite the crowds, Pedn Vounder is still one of the UK’s most beautiful beaches.”

The “hidden gem” was described as “proof you don’t need to hotfoot to the Caribbean” for breathtaking blue sea and white sandy shores.

Cornwall is one of the most popular seaside tourist destinations in the UK.

In 2022, the coastal county welcomed an estimated five million domestic visitors seeking a beachfront retreat.
