We don’t know about you but we love to get away from our phones as soon as we go on holiday

The thought of not having to reply to work emails or scrolling endlessly through social media can do us a world of good.

Smartphones were created to make life easier, but are slowly becoming a place where most people live their lives.

According to Time To Log Off, an organisation that researches issues like internet addiction, more than two in five (43 percent) of UK adults admit to spending too much time online.

Meanwhile, a study by DataReportal states that users in the UK spend an average of three hours daily on their mobiles and three hours and eight minutes on their laptops, desktops or tablets.

The pressures of modern life, which often involve being practically fused with our digital devices, are a common reason to seek travel.

However what good will travelling do if you can’t get away from the stresses of your day-to-day life? The answer to that is digital detoxing.

A digital detox is a break that is designed to help people get away from the screens, taking some time removed from digital technology.

A new study by online travel agency By Hannah’s Vacations has found the best places to switch off from your phones and be in holiday mode.

The team looked at popular destinations and their poor internet connection, let’s take a look at the list more in detail.

Marrakesh in Morocco is one of the best cities for a digital detox thanks to its generally poor internet infrastructure, which can include a day trip to the Atlas Mountains.

With gorgeous limestone islands and rock formations, and its remote location away from civilization, Halong Bay in Vietnam is the second-best digital detox destination.

Meanwhile, the high altitudes and remoteness of Nepal make it easy to disconnect from the internet, and the beauty of its capital, Kathmandu, ensures travellers don’t get bored spending too much time away from their phones.

Hannah Westphal, a travel expert who operates the online travel agency, By Hannah’s Vacations, said: “Digital detox as a travel genre has seen a massive spike over the past few years. Although not everyone uses that term, more and more people are coming to us asking for places to get away from their phones and connect with nature or a new culture.

“The perfect digital detox place is somewhere where you can disconnect from your phone and connect with nature. Choosing a country specifically with worse internet connectivity can force you over that initial barrier most people face when reducing their phone usage.”
