THE Scottish First Minister will visit today to the Acorn carbon capture and storage project at St Fergus, Aberdeenshire, which will store carbon underneath the North Sea using pipelines. Ahead of the visit, Jenny Stanning, external affairs director of Offshore Energies UK, said: 

“With the right investment the UK offshore energy industry can deliver a framework to maximise our storage potential which will make the UK a CO2 storage destination, servicing the whole of Europe and beyond

If we get this right, with an attractive investment environment and a strong industrial economy, UK offshore energy companies could invest £200 billion in homegrown energy production this decade alone.  

This investment will help realise 50 gigawatts of wind, 10 gigawatts of hydrogen and at least four carbon capture and storage clusters at the same time as protecting and boosting jobs in the energy sector, supporting homegrown oil and gas and reducing our requirement for energy imports.”
