Formula One returns after a two-week break with the 13th meeting of the 2024 season, and after a wildly unpredictable last few races in Austria and Great Britain respectively, this weekend’s upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix from the Hungaroring in Mogyorod is almost too close to call!

Max Verstappen still leads the way in the World Drivers’ Championship race by some distance as he chases a fourth successive title, but for the first time this season, has failed to win in the last two consecutive races, allowing his closest challengers to close the gap at the top.

A high-profile clash with Lando Norris cost both drivers any chance of victory at Red Bull’s home race in Austria, while he was pipped to the finish line at Silverstone by Lewis Hamilton in the British Grand Prix, making it back-to-back races in which Mercedes have finished on top of the podium.

Hamilton and George Russell winning the last two races – as well as Norris’ emergence as the front-runner to de-throne Verstappen at season’s end – set up an enthralling encounter at the Hungaroring as the European summer of races continues in 2024.

With Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy still to come before heading to Asia and the Americas for this season’s closing races, the second half of this pulsating campaign is set to start with a bang in Hungary.

As the 13th race of the 2024 F1 season approaches, The Sporting News have gone through all the odds offered by our partner bookmakers to come up with the best bets, tips and predictions you’ll need ahead of the latest edition of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

F1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2024 odds to win

It’s a testament to how wild the last few races have been that, as we pass the halfway point of the 2024 campaign, three-time defending champion and this season’s runaway leader Max Verstappen is only at evens to win at the Hungaroring, having managed to suffer defeat in each of the last two meetings.

That equates to a +100 moneyline lean with BetMGM – a first positive moneyline of the season for the Dutchman – though he still remains the clear favourite to win in Hungary ahead of Lando Norris, who is on +275 after a third-placed finish at the British Grand Prix last time out.

Despite their victories at the Austrian and British Grands Prix respectively, Mercedes duo George Russell and Lewis Hamilton are only joint-third favourites, and quite a way back at +700.

Oscar Piastri is just behind the British trio on +800, and after a horror few weeks for Ferrari, their two drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are way, way back in the pecking order. BetMGM have Leclerc at a huge +2500 with Sainz at an even greater +2800, and Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez trails further behind at +4000.

F1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2024: Best bet

  • Pick: Lando Norris to win 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix
  • Moneyline lean: +275 (BetMGM)

He may have only picked up his first-ever race win at the Miami Grand Prix earlier this season, but Norris’ form so far in 2024 suggests that a second may not be too far around the corner. He was on course for victory in Austria before a momentous collision with Verstappen close to the race’s end, and was third at Silverstone last time out.

BetMGM have Norris as the second-favourite behind Verstappen to win at the Hungaroring despite the recent performances of fellow Brits Russell and Hamilton, and that may be a suggestion that if anyone is set to prevent Verstappen from getting back to winning ways this weekend, it’ll be the 24-year-old’s McLaren unit.

F1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2024: Prop bet

  • Pick: A winning margin of between 6 and 12 seconds
  • Moneyline lean: +330 (DraftKings)

While the 2023 season was essentially a walkover for Verstappen, winning 19 of the 22 races on offer, this year has been a much closer fight with several races going down to the wire.

The last six meetings in a row have been settled by less than 12 seconds, and with the Hungaroring a more open track than most on the circuit this year, we think that trend will continue, with DraftKings putting a +330 moneyline lean on the margin of victory being close-run once again.

F1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2024: Flier bet

  • Pick: Charles Leclerc OR Carlos Sainz to record fastest lap time
  • Moneyline lean: both +700 (BetMGM)

Ferrari may have seen some poor results in recent weeks after a strong early period in the season, but that didn’t stop a resurgent Sainz from recording the fastest lap at Silverstone last time out, earning an extra World Drivers’ Championship point despite finishing fifth in the running.

With Leclerc a lowly 14th at the British Grand Prix, both he and Sainz will be looking for vast improvements at the Hungaroring this weekend, particularly given the Monegasque driver recorded successive fastest laps in Saudi Arabia and Australia at the start of the campaign.

Therefore, both Ferrari drivers are sitting on +700 odds with BetMGM to record the fastest lap of the race in Hungary, and given the form we all know they’re capable of, this outside chance seemingly has a fair likelihood of coming to pass.
