Post Title: Operations Manager

Site Location: Fairfield Halls – Croydon – London

Salary: £40,000 per annum

Hours: 40 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent

The role:

This is a generalist Operations Manager role and you will need a strong background of working and leading successful teams within a theatre, arts, heritage, or visitor attraction. Previous experience of event managing a large and busy events venue is essential for this role.

You will:

  • Plan and duty manage events and the venue.
  • Liaise with internal teams regarding specific events and take a lead on behalf of Fairfield Halls in the planning of events.
  • Ensure our customers have a great experience when visiting Fairfield Halls.
  • Build effective working relationships with contractors and third-party suppliers.
  • Liaise with local authorities to ensure the safety and security of events are aligned with the premise licence.
  • Maintain effective management of the teams including Visitor Experience & Security.
  • Devise rotas to ensure adequate staffing and security is in place and is within agreed budgets.

To be successful you will need:

  • Experience of delivering effective visitor experience management within a busy and large arts, heritage or visitor attraction.
  • Experience of duty managing a large venue.
  • To take the lead and be organised in the planning of events.
  • Understand the importance of providing great customer service.
  • Be able to manage, lead and motivate teams.
  • A personal licence or the ability to obtain one with a reasonable timeframe.
  • To make decisions in line with BH Live policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Experience of working in a theatre, arts, heritage, or visitor attraction
  • Ability to make decisions in line with policies and procedures
  • Experience of interviewing and recruiting people
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Good administrative skills
  • Knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft 360, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to lead a customer focused motivated team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills
  • Experience of training colleagues
  • A track record of delivering effective visitor experience management within an arts, heritage or visitor attraction
  • Proven track record of delivering outcomes within an arts, heritage of visitor attraction
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and bank holidays to meets business requirements
  • Experience of duty managing a large venue
  • Have a personal licence or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe

Desirable

  • Food Safety Level 2 qualification

Job Responsibilities

The Operations team at Fairfield Halls is responsible for ensuring each of our visitors receives a fantastic customer experience befitting South London’s largest arts venue.

You will oversee the effective operational running of the customer-facing areas of Fairfield Halls, ensuring the highest standards of service are offered to all our visitors and maintaining appropriate levels of staffing and security.

You will need previous experience in managing and motivating staff on shift, devising rotas for large venues, scheduling inductions and refresher training for colleagues and have a sound knowledge of venue health & safety requirements.

Experience in event managing a large and busy events venue is essential.

  • Working closely with the Senior Operations Manager you will ensure appropriate security levels are in place.
  • Support the Senior Operations Manager and Operations Manager (hospitality) in the running of events and venue operations.
