A score of destinations along the UK’s coastline are gaining traction for their entertainment choices, according to a new survey.

An index by OLBG has profiled the nation’s top destinations to mark for a visit this summer.

Tenby, in Pembrokeshire, took the crown as the most entertaining destination based on its amusements and weather conditions.

Scoring 7.71 out of 10, Tenby has 6.4 pubs per 1,000 people and 2.4 featuring live music, so for such a small town, there’s decent nightlife for visitors.

The town is also home to the second-highest number of museums, including the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden and the St Ives Museums.

Lyme Regis, in Dorset, secured the third spot on the list for its natural beauty and its historic charm.

Lyme Regis scores well for its zoos and aquariums, mainly due to the Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium, which showcases local sea life and the town’s rich maritime history.

The Cornish town of St Ives, which showcases some of the country’s most pristine coastline, came second in the index.

Thousands of tourists flock to the area yearly to enjoy picturesque views of the rocky cliff and crystal clear waters.

The Cornwall town has an oceanic climate and of all the seaside cities analysed. It also has the lowest annual rainfall and the fewest average rainy days per year.

Steve Madgwick, Editor-In-Chief at OLBG.com, said: “The Great British Summer is finally here.

“Although the weather isn’t always destined for the perfect UK getaway, many of the best seaside towns across our shores are jam-packed with indoor and outdoor entertainment – from arcades to pubs and more.

“Using various data sources such as Tripadvisor and Google Maps, OLBG has created the ultimate ‘Holiday Entertainment Index’ to determine the best places for seaside fun in the UK, including the best amusement locations.

“Every seaside town has its charm to attract visitors from both the UK and worldwide, but if you’re looking for some fun on your adventurous trip, our final index scores have named Tenby the best UK seaside town for holiday entertainment.
