Online sales of Tequila grew by 16.4%.

According to data from the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA), off-trade sales of Tequila were worth £33m (US$39m) in the year ending March 2022.

NielsenIQ’s data also revealed that ready-to-drink (RTD) serves are experiencing the third-largest growth in the beer, wine and spirits category, and are worth £424m (US$537m) in the off-trade. RTDs containing Tequila skyrocketed by 150.5%.

Josh Self from NielsenIQ will present these findings and more on the agave category at Imbibe Live (1-2 July) in London, during a session titled ‘The Trends in Retail to Watch: NielsenIQ on Beers, Wines & Spirits’.

Imbibe Live has also introduced a dedicated theatre to agave spirits, called the Campo de Agave theatre, for the first time this year.

The theatre will offer agave masterclasses hosted by Club Cantina, with talks from Deano Moncrieffe of Hacha, Gaby Moncada of Speciality Brands and Matthias Ingelmann of Kol Mezcaleria.

Shona Thomson, exhibition manager at Imbibe Live, said: “We know that Tequila is a category that has been gaining in popularity among consumers and there are plenty of opportunities for the on- and off-trade alike to capitalise on this.

“We want to ensure operators and retailers are equipped with all the tools they need to be able to drive sales by leveraging the category.

“We’re really excited to be launching the show’s very first Campo de Agave theatre, which aims to provide vital education on how best to stock, merchandise and serve Tequila, as well as to provide attendees with an opportunity to try, taste and meet some of the brands that are making waves in the category.”
