Euro 2024 Predictions: The Panel's Best Bets & Tips For Wednesday's Games

Wednesday’s Euro 2024 Betting Tips:

Euro 2024 moves into the second round of fixtures and teams are now entering the crucial stage of the group stage, where they will hope to avoid drama in the final round of matches.

Hosts Germany enjoyed the perfect start to their campaign, hammering Scotland 5-1 in their Group A opener. A second win over Hungary would take them into the knockout phase without the problems they experienced at the 2022 World Cup.

Hungary need a response from their defeat to Switzerland, which should see an entertaining game between two teams vying for Group A points.

Albania and Croatia meet in Group B after both sides suffered defeats in their openers. Neither team can afford to lose, promising an intense duel in Hamburg.

The Panel have looked at both games and have made their predictions using the best odds from UK betting sites.

Germany vs Hungary Prediction

(5pm, BBC 1)

Germany began their Euros with a bang, putting Scotland to the sword with ease in Munich. Julian Nagelsmann’s side enjoyed a fast start and were already in complete command before Ryan Porteous’ dismissal effectively ended the game.

The scoreline was emphatic, but Die Mannschaft cannot afford to get carried away with work to be done to secure their place in the knockout phase. Germany are overwhelming favourites with football betting sites at 2/7 to secure the win in Stuttgart, which is not great value, so The Panel are going to look to the host nation’s key players for their betting tip.

Nagelsmann will have been thrilled with the performances of his two rising stars, Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. Wirtz broke the deadlock with a clinical strike before Musiala notched the second with a blast from inside the penalty area.

If Germany are to make a run for the Euros crown, Musiala and Wirtz will be crucial. There is a changing of the guard in the German midfield as Toni Kroos bows out at the end of the tournament, while Ilkay Gundogan will not be around at a high level for much longer.

Wirtz is the heir apparent to control the middle of the park in the future, both in terms of scoring goals and creating them. Wirtz was outstanding for Bayer Leverkusen in their Bundesliga title-winning season, scoring 11 goals and notching 11 assists.

After a quiet end to the campaign, he was on point with a fine goal against Scotland and The Panel are optimistic that he will be involved in the final third again.

Hungary were cut open at the back by Switzerland with incisive passing and Wirtz could be in line for another goal or an assist at odds of 4/6 at Bet365.

Croatia vs Albania

(2pm, ITV 1)

Both Croatia and Albania suffered defeats in their respective first matches at the tournament.

Croatia were humbled at the hands of Spain, suffering a 3-0 reverse as La Roja scored three goals before half-time in a dominant display. Albania made a brilliant start against Italy, scoring the fastest goal in Euros history. However, the reigning champions responded and ran out 2-1 victors.

But there was plenty of encouragement for Sylvinho’s men, who have been handed a rough draw in arguably the strongest group in the competition.

Croatia have been outstanding at World Cups under Zlatko Dalic, but their performances in the Euros have not been of the same standard. They’ve won only one of their last six matches in the European Championships, which is a concern for their prospects of winning the tournament.

Croatia are an ageing team and the next generation talent is yet to emerge outside of defenders Josko Gvardiol and Josip Stanisic. Luka Modric has been the heartbeat of the side over the last decade, but even his powers appear to be on the wane at the age of 38.

Still, this is a spirited Croatia side who have always outperformed expectations. They’re surely not going to exit a tournament with a whimper.

Albania do have the quality to hurt Dalic’s men, but The Panel believe the game will follow a similar pattern to their defeat to Italy. There’s not quite the nous in Albania’s game yet, although Sylvinho’s side will not go down without a fight.

The Panel are backing Croatia to edge out the contest by one goal at 12/5 on betting apps.
