A major UK airport has warned passengers to leave plenty of time before travelling as a nearby motorway prepares to close for works.
Parts of the M56 near Manchester Airport will close next month for several days for “important wear and tear work”.
The work, which includes resurfacing some slip roads, will take place between 9pm and 5am on weekdays, ending at 7am on weekends.
Rob Williams of National Highways said the organisation is working alongside the airport in order to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.
He told the BBC drivers would need to “leave a little bit of extra time to get to work or check-in for flights”.
Work to lay the new surface will begin on June 10 between junction five at the airport and junction six at Hale Barns.
The eastbound carriageway, between junction six and junction four, will shut overnight on June 11 and 12 and again between July 8 and 10, with diversions in place via local roads.
Later that month, the eastbound road between junction seven and junction five will shut between June 24 and 26 and on July 4 and 5.
Mr Williams said the highways authority would be in touch with the airport to “ensure they are aware of our timetable”.
He told the BBC workers should be “well out of the way” before the summer holidays begin at the end of July.

It comes after airports nationwide have been hit by several delays caused by Border Force passport control e-gates going offline on a number of occasions.
