A TOTAL of 45 members of staff have lost their jobs after a Scottish pizza firm suffered difficult “market conditions”.
Pizza oven company Ooni, based in Edinburgh, said it made the “difficult” decision to let roles go this week.
A total of 75 jobs have been axed globally across the firm, with 45 of those roles based in the UK.
The company said the cuts came after difficult “market conditions” caused “a refocus” of its “strategy and structure”.
Bosses announced the devasted news to staff on Monday but added they “tried very hard to avoid this situation”.
All workers were offered a voluntary redundancy package and impacted roles will be communicated tomorrow.
However, bosses have said they are fully committed to supporting our employees during the difficult time.
A spokesperson for Ooni told the Scottish Sun: “We’re incredibly proud to have built a global business, shaped through the passion of our customers and employees.
“However, market conditions necessitate a refocus of Ooni’s strategy and structure in line with our future business objectives.
“Whilst we have tried very hard to avoid this situation, on Monday we informed the team that we will be removing 75 roles globally; 45 of which are in the UK.
“A voluntary redundancy package has been offered to all staff, with the impacted roles communicated on Thursday 25th April.
“We appreciate this will be difficult for our people and we are fully committed to supporting our employees during this period of necessary change.”
Fans of the popular pizza firm have been left gutted by the news.
Many have taken to social media site Reddit to share their disappointment at the news.
One person said: “Tough news”.
Another added: “This is disappointing to hear.”
While someone else chimed in: “I love my Fyra and their customer service was outstanding for me.
“Hopefully they can make it sustainable as a business – it’s one of those few products that for me is an easy purchase, in that there’s one main brand worth buying (Ooni).”
Ooni quickly became popular after launching the world’s first portable wood-pellet-fired pizza oven in 2012.
