Located on the North Devon Coast, between Croyde and Ilfracombe, is Woolacombe Beach, a three-mile stretch of sand which has been named as one of the best beaches in the UK. Britons have even taken to Tripadvisor to declare the beach as one of their “favourite” beaches in the nation.
Experts from Iglu Cruises Collected data from Tripadvisor of the top-rated beaches with more than 1,000 reviews each and have dubbed one “the most beautiful” in the UK, with Woolacombe making it into the top 10 list.
The beach currently has a rating of 4.5 stars out of a possible five on Tripadvisor and was awarded a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award in 2023.
A visitor from Exeter reviewed the beach stating: “Probably my favourite beach in the UK. I think it’s privately owned but means it’s always kept very clean.
“Dog-friendly which many in the area aren’t during the summer. Best part about Woolacombe. You can walk for miles.” [SIC]
A second visitor also left a review describing it as the “best beach” they have ever been to. The visitor added: “Miles of golden soft sand and partially dog-friendly which is important for me.”
Woolacombe Beach is situated in the village of Woolacombe, and is popular with surfers. The experts from Iglu Cruises said: “The next beach included on the list is Woolacombe Beach, situated in Woolacombe, Devon, England. Surfing is popular as the beach faces the Atlantic Ocean, making for a swell of waves.
“It is also dog-friendly all year round, with plenty of space for dogs to run around. Many holidaymakers head to North Devon in the summertime, so as you can imagine, the beach can gather thousands of visitors on a sunny day. “
However, even during the busy summer months, the size of the beach means that there is plenty of space to set up for the day.
Visit Devon said: “The sheer length of the beach means it is possible to find quieter places in the surf even at the height of summer.
“Easy access and three large car parks with space for 2000 cars means that Woolacombe beach combines magnificent natural beauty, excellent facilities and a wide range of activities for all ages.”
The village of Woolacombe is also described as being a “lively” destination making the perfect base for a family holiday, with plenty of pubs and restaurants to enjoy. You can also reach the beach for a day out when walking the South West Coast Path.
