The Derby is the biggest race on the flat in the horse racing season with £850,000 prize and into the history books for the winner on June 1st at Epsom Racecourse.
This coveted race is steeped in history, since the first running of ‘The Derby’ back in 1780. And while the sport keeps changing, the Derby remains one of the top races in the sporting calendar.

The Derby attracts a huge crowd in Surrey every year, all gathering to see the infamous winner crowned on the day.
It has produced many notable winners of the year and in the last three years, Auguste Rodin, Desert Crown and Adayar have won to put themselves in esteemed company.
The race is contested over 1m4f and features the best three-year-old horses in training.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien has won the Derby seven times in the last 12 renewals, with the latest, Auguste Rodin winning under Ryan Moore in a thrilling battle with King Of Steel.
In 2014, the Irish trainer became the first ever person to train three consecutive winners and continues to break records with group wins with his incredible selection of the best horses.
He has a few contenders that are already leading the betting including City Of Troy, Los Angeles, Diego Velazquez and Capulet.
Those occupy the top six in the betting already and he’s got a great chance to win again with one of these.
Trainers, jockeys, fans and everyone involved in racing from the breeders, stable staff, to the drivers all wish for a Derby winner.
For some that dream is accomplished multiple times but many only get a small chance at this incredible feat.
After all, the Derby is regarded as creating the champions of the future, not just for these horses to reappear in the best races of all time, but for many it’s to sire future sprinters and champions as well.

Los Angeles was an impressive winner at Leopardstown last time out and his unbeaten record now stands with three straight victories.
Los Angeles went on to win by only a length to Euphoric under Wayne Lordan, as Ryan Moore was occupied at Lingfield in the Derby Trials, where Illinois disappointingly finished second four lengths behind Ambiente Friendly.
But crucially, that one length margin doesn’t quite do Los Angeles justice and though Lordan was riding for the line, the horse never looked to be going 100% full speed or the jockey worrying that he wasn’t going to get there.
It suggests the usual step up in trip is going to suit and he might be even better on seasonal debut than first appears on that Leopardstown run.
